Farid Baghirov

Farid was appointed as Group Commercial Director of GL Group LLC on August 25, 2025, and also serves as a member of the Group Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) team.

He brings over 17 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry, with assignments in the UK, UAE, and Oman. Throughout his career, he has developed regional strategies for multi-billion-dollar portfolios, successfully delivered major business development deals including new country entries and led high-impact commercial negotiations.

Farid began his career at bp, where he served as Commercial Advisor for the Shah Deniz 2 project and made significant contributions to the sanctioning of the Shah Deniz 2 Final Investment Decision. He also led commercial activities and supported negotiations for a new exploration PSA in Azerbaijan. He subsequently joined bp’s London-based M&A team as Associate Manager, gaining broad transactional and portfolio experience. Following this, he moved to Oman as Business Development Advisor, where he played a pivotal role in securing a landmark green hydrogen project.

Farid holds Honours diplomas for both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in International Economic Relations from Azerbaijan State Economic University.
